Contempt

Frequently, during a divorce or after a divorce has been made final, one party refuses to comply with the Agreement of Court Order. GavelIn order to be sure that you receive what the Court Ordered, you may have to ask the Court to find your ex-spouse in violation of the Court's Order. This is called Contempt and can result in the party who has violated the Court's Order being locked-up, ordered to pay your attorneys' fees, and made to do what he or she promised and was ordered to do.

A Contempt action must be filed in the Court where you were divorced, even if you and your former spouse live in different counties. Failing to pay child support is a frequent reason for asking the Court for help. Contempt actions are also filed where one party refuses to sign over a Deed, Title to a car or truck, harasses you or for other intentional violations of the Courts' Orders.
