While fairly dividing property is always a challenge, it is far more complicated when there is a family owned business. If the business was created and run during the time of the marriage, it may be marital property and must be divided between the parties. Sometimes one spouse has put all of the marital money, cars and other assets into a "business" and claims that he or she owns all of the business. This claim is not always true and often the business and the funds and assets of the business can be obtained by a spouse who did not work in that business.
We have decades of experience in "dividing businesses" as assets of a marriage. Similarly we have years of experience in protecting your business from the claims of a spouse during a divorce or separate maintainance action.
